Ahhh, September, the beautiful in-between. It welcomes hints of fall – yet allows us to hold summer’s sun just a bit longer. It’s a mixed bag, pumpkin spice coffee in the morning and the last of summer’s garden bounty for dinner.
In a world so quick to label things and rush to the next season, I’m savoring this in-between. I am enjoying the best of both seasons – short sleeves at the football tailgate and a sweatshirt in the evening under the stars in the crisp, night air.
The windows are open and fresh air invigorates my home. Time spent on my screened porch is sacred; embracing the sun high in the sky with an occasional refreshing breeze. The trees are still full, but will soon begin their yearly transition to vibrant oranges and reds. In an effort to enjoy every season the Midwest brings, I am embracing the fickle moods of September. Soon enough, fall will be in full effect with cooler temps and a pot of chili on the stove. But for now, I will savor the in-between.
