Walking is my escape, my therapy, my favorite thing to do outdoors. I especially love walking down this gravel road, it brings me back to center – to a sense of peace. Gratefully, I grew up in a family that took walks in the neighborhood each night after dinner. It has been ingrained in me all my life. As a young mother, it was a gift to walk and push my children in the stroller – they would calm down and I could move, clear my head, and get fresh air.
I was reminded recently that Steve Jobs did his best thinking while walking. There are walking trails all over Apple’s headquarters so that it is a part of the culture for all employees. It was common for him to have walking meetings, in fact, it was his preferred way to create and have conversations. While I was already a firm believer in walking, it certainly affirms that one of the greatest creative geniuses of our time found the value in it as well.
As the weather begins to improve, I invite you to get outside, take a walk, breathe in the fresh air.
